Well, Hilton Head was fun yesterday. I actually spent a little money and came home with a nice jacket and a few t-shirts. Lauren got me a nice green button-up shirt as well. We also had lunch at Fudruckers, which is always a highlight for me. After that we came home, watched some Muppets and relaxed. It was a good day.
Oh, I forgot to mention that. My roommate is awesome. He got me 5 DVDs worth of The Muppet Show box set. I was beside myself with joy.
So, that brings us up to today. Despite the fact that I need to be shooting a lot of film, I’m going to go play ultimate frisbee with Nagle in the park. I haven’t done that in quite a long time and am really looking forward to it. Tonight I MUST get my shit together and start shooting some film. That’s what I’ll be doing Monday as well. Unfortunately the photo building (and all SCAD buildings) are closed tomorrow for MLKs birthday. Some “work in progress” stuff is due Thursday and I’m afraid I don’t have much “in progress.” My ringflash and my film has been shipped from B&H which means there’s going to be quite a lot of shooting this week before Thursday. I figure that Thursday morning or Wednesday night I’m going to make a few quick contact sheets and that’ll be my “in progress” work. I don’t have the time or the paper (separate order) to make prints yet so contact sheets will have to do.
This raises an even bigger question of who I’m going to take pictures of. I brought my camera with me yesterday to Hilton Head but managed not to take any pictures. I’m going to try again with frisbee this afternoon. I know Lauren is willing to get her picture taken but I hate bothering her with it. I could probably convince Nagle as well. But, unfortunately for me, that’s everybody that I can think of. I have a few random friends in the photo department but I’d feel weird about asking people I sorta-know to stand in front of my camera. I suppose I’ll have to though. I’ll talk to some people on Tuesday and see if anyone would be willing.
Thats about it from here. Later.

I: If I was/when I am a DJ, I would open EVERY set with Coast to Coast’s “Home”. I would also close each set with Bedrock’s “Heaven Scent”. That’s just how things like that are supposed to work. Period.
II: KFC confuses the fuck out of me. I go to get some chicken tonight and ask for the “chicken strip meal” only to be informed that the “meal” doesn’t involve a side or a drink. The “combo” however, does. Now, is it just me or does “combo” sound like “one or two items” and a “meal” sound like, well, a “complete meal.” Apparently I’m backwards. When I hear “meal” I expect certain things, something more than chicken and a biscuit being one of them. Whats also funny is that the “meal” and the “combo” are only about $0.50 different in price. Why even offer the “meal”? Why not just call it “chicken and a biscuit” and be done with it. Apparently thats too complicated. Silly chicken people.
III: Have you ever tried to find a piece of dialog or spoken word to start off a mix or a techno track? It’s harder than it seems. Try finding a sound clip of Audrey Hepburn or Jack Kerouac or something. Not so easy is it?
IV: I got my picture taken today with a ring light. I was nearly floored when my teacher let us in on the secret that we had one. I nearly wet myself. A ring light is the coolest thing EVER for those of you who are mildly interested in photography. It’s a light that sits AROUND the lens to your camera, not on the top of it. It gives a beautiful, warm, flat light with no distortion, no glare and no shadows. Its perfectly even in every direction and makes sink tones absolutely glow. They’re also really fucking expensive.
V: To elaborate, the photo shoot went well today. Matt (not me, a kid in my class) was actually taking pictures of me. I obviously wasn’t able to see how they looked in the camera but the lighting was great (see above) and I’m a sexy beast so I’m sure they came out great. I told him that if they did come out well I’d need to get a copy of them. So, if they turned out well, I’ll be sure to share’em with you guys. In other photo news. I ordered film from B&H today and plan to shoot this weekend but I don’t know what of yet. Wish me luck.
VI: I’ve also decided that I need one of these. Why? Because I do.
VII: I’m working on a new web page design for the page that you’re looking at this very moment. Surprised? Probably not.
That is all.

That’s what I just paid for cable this afternoon. After driving down to their office and asking them WHY it was $128. They fed me some BS line about how I was on this promotional deal that started on the 12th of one month but that billing is done on the 1st so I got charge an extra 12 days at full price plus the full price for that month. I told them that was crap and that they couldn’t charge me twice for the same thing, regardless of those 12 days. I asked for the manager and got him to un-pro-rate those 12 days. It also didn’t help that I was away and hadn’t paid last months bill either, so that tacked on an extra $40. So, technically my cable bill is about $55 a month, but today I paid for 2 and a half months worth. Ouch. Now my wallet hurts. To make matters worse, I don’t know when SCAD is going to get off their ass and find my loan check. NHHEF (New Hampshire Higher Education Foundation) says they’ve sent two checks. SCAD can’t seem to find either of them. I hate my school.
In the mean time I don’t have enough money to pay Jason back for rent AND buy supplies. I’m supposed to have shot a couple rolls of film by next week and I haven’t even ordered the film yet. Wheee! Isn’t life grand.
I’ve also been running a bit more. Twice in the past three days even. Plus 100 situps/crunches a day. All that in an attempt to make me look better than I feel.
Oh, and my shoot on Saturday went well. I think. I haven’t gotten the film back yet. I’ll be picking that up this afternoon. I had never worked with any of the people I worked with on Saturday but would do it again. They all seemed very nice and professional and when it came time to setup and shoot we pulled together and got the job done. Actually, the class that the film is for is at 3:00 today. We’re technically supposed to shoot during class for the assignment we did on Saturday. It’s quite possible that I’ll be home by 3:30. If everyones film turns out and there’s nothing to do in class, there’s no point in staying.
Yesterday I also went with Lauren and Brit to Big Lots and Sam’s Club. I needed a cheap entertainment center because the box (yes… a box) that the TV was sitting on decided to collapse. Lauren and Brittney wanted to go to Sam’s while we were out and I took the opportunity to get some tasty breakfast sandwiches so that I’d be more likely to eat something in the mornings instead of waiting until lunch like normal.
Thats about it. Tonight I’ve got to sit down and read Othello and write up a peer-evaluation for tomorrow. Other than that I’ve been playing a little Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 and listening to the PVD essential mix from Columbiahalle and the Dirty Vegas EM from September. They’re both pretty slick. Alrighty. I’m off to class. Later.

Hey, today I’ve got my big photo shoot at 2:00 until whenever we finish. I know at least two out of the four shoots won’t require that much setup so they should be easy. The other two I’m clueless about. It should be interesting. I’ve also got to remember to pick up film before I go.
Last night I also got Red Hat 8.0 installed along-side Windows 2K on my older box. They’re actually playing nicely with each other for the time being. My purpose in doing this was basically so that I’d have something to learn with and mess around in. It should be fun.
Alright. Enough chit-chat. I’ve got to get going. Wish me luck.

It’s a shame January sucks. I was really looking forward to playing Splinter Cell next week but now it appears to have been pushed back until the end of the month. This will seriously cut into my Unreal II playing time. U2 comes out the first week of February for those of you who don’t know. Besides that there’s not a single interesting game coming out anytime soon. C&C: Generals (which I’m only mildly excited about) comes out mid-February. I guess I could be interested in Simcity 4000 or High Heat Baseball for a few minutes when they come out. Other than that theres nothing that really interests me until summer. Its such a shame that an industry with so much talent only produces a handful of good products a year. Then again, I could probably count on one hand the number of movies I think deserve Oscars from 2002. I guess it’s the same across the board. 95% crap with a few goodies here and there. Oh well.
Anyway, yesterday I got to go grocery shopping finally. I can now enjoy food that isn’t Ramen noodles. Huzzah. I also went out to eat with Lauren and Jason and had one of the biggest hamburgers I’ve ever seen. It was tasty.
Oh, and my little ‘puter will have RedHat Linux on it by the end of the day… or at least that’s the plan. I’m downloading the ISOs now and will probably get to that later this afternoon. I’m excited. I haven’t really had a chance to play with Linux before. It’ll be a learning experience for me.
That’s about it. I have a shoot tomorrow and have to read 1/2 of Othello by Tuesday so not much in the way of homework this weekend. Which, in turn, leaves me plenty of time to screw up a RedHat installation. 🙂
Matt out.

Well, life at SCAD is back to full swing and I already have stuff to do this weekend. Actually, I’ll mention that I already have a shoot with 3 of my classmates this Saturday if that helps illustrate my point. Yesterday I had Shakespeare and Personal vision, both of which seem to be right up my alley. Shakespeare will basically consist of me reading a play, watching the movie and then discussing. It doesn’t seem that strenuous. Thats followed by Personal Vision is, literally, is a “do whatever you feel like” class. It’s your personal vision. If you want to make color prints of animals you can. If you prefer to make platinum prints about gut-wrenchingly personal subjects you can do that too. That class, combined with Portrait should give me the flexibility to do what I like, in whatever time table I feel like doing it in. At this point I feel that my portfolio is lacking commercial people/product work and edgier more inventive portraiture. I’m probably going to combine my work in both classes into a more centered portfolio. I’d like to do some more environmental portraits as well (people in their surroundings) but thats a wide range of ideas to work with at the moment. We’ll see where the semester leads me. Needless to say I’m very excited about this semester. I have 2 great classes and 1 easy class to balance things out, plenty of ideas to work with (knock on wood) and so hopefully I can come away with some good work that both satisfies me artistically and helps to get me a job.
Jason also made me feel a little more confident in my web design/graphics skills the other day when he told me that he showed my site to a professional ($75/hour) web designer and he said it was more impressive than anything he’s ever done. That made me feel pretty good. I’m almost thinking about seeing if Pixel Media is interested in hiring me again. They offered me a position a year ago but said they wanted someone full time. No harm in asking I suppose.
Oh ya, and Lauren, Brit and I went to Toys’R’Us yesterday so that Lauren could buy “pregnant barbie”. I’m not even joking about that one. Apparently Matel made a Barbie doll, “Mother-to-be Midge” to be exact, thats pregnant. Now, I have nothing against that, I think it’s a good idea actually, teaching kids where babies come from and such but apparently a few people would disagree with me. Right-wing groups across the country are pissed and most retail stores pulled it from the shelves making it an instant collectible. I find that funny. Anyway, so now Lauren has “knocked-up” Barbie as I called it.
Thats about it. I’m waiting from some loan money to do some grocery shopping and supply shopping. Other than that it’s pretty much back to normal around here. Lauren and I have a very similar schedule this semester so I get to spend more time with her which I’m very happy about. I’ve got good classes which I’m also happy about. That’s about it. I’ve got to run, Lauren is making cookies and I think they just came out of the oven. Yum.
