Best Monday Ever

I was fortunate enough to have tickets to the Red Sox – Astros game Monday night. I decided to take the day off work and make a whole event out of it. It was my belated Father’s Day present and I had a blast.

Brock Holt

The way I pick player collections is this: I don’t. They pick me. After stacking up an inordinately large number of the same player I start to contemplate adding him to my non-Sox player collection. If I get a hit or an auto from that player later on, then I’m pretty much sold. It’s meant to be. You can blame my insane amount of Ryan Zimmerman relics for this policy

What’s even weirder is when that person is traded to the Red Sox later.

Enter Brock Holt. Quite honestly, that’s the best baseball name I’ve ever heard. I can’t see a “Brock Holt” doing anything other than playing a professional sport. Either that or being a kick-ass space Marine in some sci-fi movie. With a name that badass, you have few options.

Series 1 Case Break Loot

A couple weeks ago, Crackin’ Wax had his first big case break. He busted all but one box of Series 1 and raffled the final one away. I bought both Red Sox slots in the break, hoping to not only get a team set (which I did, x5) but to hopefully get a good chunk of the inserts, parallels, etc. I figured, for the price of two blasters, why not. I’d be buying way more than that trying to do it via retail. Good call on my part. Here’s the loot.

YYYOOOOOUUUUUKKKKK

WHY?!?! What’s next, let Papi walk, trade Ellsbury and resign Daisuke?!?! WTF front office. WTF.

I mean, I know he’s hurt 95% of the time, but damn, his OBP is ridiculous. Hasn’t Ben read Moneyball. What does Youk do? He gets on base. All. The. Time.

Come on! At least get more for the guy than two AAA leftovers and some cash. That’s just ridiculous.

Interesting Questions

I just noticed that RedSox.com has up a survey to pick the “All Fenway Team”. This year is the 100th Anniversary of Fenway Park. That means two things. First, that it’s the oldest, continually used ballpark in America. Second, that it’s now an official US Landmark and can’t be altered, demolished, updated or renovated without an act of Congress. Literally.

Most of you don’t give 2 spits about the Red Sox, and that’s completely understandable. Everyone has their teams and I’d never begrudge anyone for rooting for theirs. For me though, the survey is a bit troublesome. Look at Left Field for example. You can’t have a “best Red Sox ever” team without BOTH Ted Williams and Carl Yastrezemski. It can’t be done. Picking one over the other is like asking me to choose between breathing and eating. Anyway, just for giggles, and again I know none of you care, I pasted the entirety of the survey candidates below. I also highlighted my choices in red. I mixed my nostalgia, personal favorites and stats leaders all in. For example, Ike Delock probably has better RP numbers, but I’m picking Paps and Gordon. I also picked two or more in the appropriate categories. No need to pick just 1 pitcher when you have a rotation of 5.
