So, if you’ve been paying attention, you’d know that I’ve gone a little coo-coo for cocoa puff over 2008 Upper Deck X. I honestly have no idea why. I just like them. A lot. I like the card design, I like that the set isn’t 7000+ cards (just 100 base!), I like that I can pull all sorts of awesome looking X-Potential cards seemingly on a whim, lol. Actually, what I like the most about the set is that it’s in all the bargain bins at Target. I got 6 or 7 packs at Christmas and just this weekend went back and the bargain bid had been restocked with nearly 20 more. I bought most of them.
I’m seriously considering, if I can find a hobby box of them (or if one actually exists – both Blowout Cards and Baseball Card Exchange are completely sold out) at the Tristar show in two weeks, maybe doing my first group break. I’ve been saving up some cash and I want to buy a couple boxes of things, but that’s the “opening packs junkie” in me talking. I don’t need or want 95% of the cards that would be in whatever I buy… so, that’s where you guys might come in. I’m must personally bust some, I might group break some, we’ll have to see how the mood strikes me. But if you see a “group break signup” some time after the show, I wouldn’t be terribly surprised.
I’ve gotten off topic. I wanted to show off a couple of the UDX cards I did pull. Read on after the break…

I did a little rearranging this morning and decided that the home/intro page wasn’t really serving any purpose in it’s current form. Having a list of “featured” posts that was out of date and a completely separate “blog” area seemed redundant. So, for as long as I’m using this theme, I decided to condense a little bit. The main page is now the blog and the blog page now redirects back to here. I used a 301 redirect plugin so that legacy links out there won’t break. So, if you’re seeing this and used a URL with /blog/ in it, feel free to update your bookmarks. I also increased the number for posts per page and did some general maintenance (upgrades, etc) behind the scenes. Let me know if anyone runs into any trouble.

So, I actually haven’t posted a person update since before my birthday, which was nice by the way, thanks for asking. We took everyone out to my favorite Chinese place and treated ourselves. My grill was my big present and my wife got me all sorts of grill accessories to go along with it, including a really nice “Grill Ninja” apron. Apparently I’m messy AND sneaky. lol.
A couple days later my parents came to town for Christmas. They wanted to spend some time with their new grand daughter. She was a little shy at first, but she warmed up to them in no time. She was sleeping on Grandpa’s shoulder by that afternoon. I think talking to them via web video helped a lot. She knew their voices right away. We had a fairly quite Christmas on the whole. Went to church, had a nice Christmas lunch/dinner (linner?) with the whole family. We spent the rest of the week just taking it easy and playing tour guide to my folks. Everyone was also feeling a little under the weather as well. By the end of the week we were all coughing and sniffling.

…and not the boring kind.
I realized I hadn’t made a post in a couple days and for that I apologize. I had family in town and we were busying doing holiday things. I was going to do a big giant one about everything, but I’ll split it into two, that way the baseball card folks can read this one, and everyone else here for the normal “daily dribble” can read the other one, lol.

My father-in-law just did something incredibly nice. He bought me a grill for helping him out this year. A GRILL. My old grill was tiny, 10 years old and broken in so many ways. I was actually kind of surprised it made it that long. I used it pretty much once a week for most of the year for all those years. I love to grill. It’s in my blood, apparently. (more…)
