Mystery Card

Anyone want to help me out with this one? This morning I stumbled across this card on ebay

Anyone want to tell me what’s wrong with that picture? Jason Varitek, blue pin-stripe??? Ok trading card community, can anyone tell me A) If pin-stripes were ever worn for an all-star game, a special event, or anything similar in the past 10 years, or B) did Topps/Bowman really really screw this up?

For the record, it’s a 2007 Bowman Sterling. Also, it’s listed twice on COMC, also with blue pin-stripes!!! Check it out here (regular version) and here (refractor). WHAT IS GOING ON???

Fixed Email

A quick apology, mostly to Greg, but also to anyone else that’s tried to email me recently at this domain. Apparently, in a fit of spam-related rage, I turned on some ridiculously strict anti-spam measures. I had SpamAssassin set at a 2 (1-10, 1 being the strictest), I had BoxTrapper installed and a mandatory white-list in place. I don’t even remember doing any of that. So, if you were wondering why emails weren’t getting returned or why it was taking days/weeks for me to reply, there you go. Everything I was being sent was either waiting for confirmation that you’re a real person, or was sitting in a spam bucket, waiting to be deleted. Sorry about that. I put everything back at a non-paranoid level, and email should be returning to normal. Carry on.

Andrew Miller – Rookie Auto

So, I did something I don’t normally do. I picked up a pre-Red Sox card for a player that may or may not even have a spot in the rotation this year. It was $0.99 with free shipping and I figured “why not”. Normally I wouldn’t have bothered, but on autographs I’m willing to be a little more lenient. If this was just a random base card from his years on the Tigers I would have passed right over it. That, and I really like the “Moments and Milestones” cards for some reason. They just seem kinda classy. Black and white design, nice classic leaf/banner thingy. I dunno, it was cheap, I also like cheap.

I didn’t really think I was going to have a card to show today either, but non-tracking numbered ebay purchases are always a nice surprise in the mailbox, right? Have a good weekend everybody!

Trade with Ben at BaseballCardsRule

So, after I had posted the tradebait from the Tristar Show last month, Ben from Baseball Cards Rule gave me a buzz and was interested in a couple cards. We had actually met up with Ben before the show and had some breakfast. It was great to meet a fellow blogger in real life. Ben’s a player collector and I sent a Pujols and a Cole Hamels his way and in return he hooked me up with some nice Sox goodies. My favorites out of the whole pile Ben sent were definitely these…

Penny Auction

I’ve got an active search saved on eBay for anything containing the words “Red Sox” and “lot” and starting at $0.01, not exceeding $1.00. I won just such an auction last week, spending a whopping $0.02, and it just showed up the other day. I got a couple duds, but for the most part seller was true to their word in terms of not having dupes and being mostly “stars” and “favorite players”. It certainly helped my lack of Nomar…
