I’ll give you $5 to use a paragraph tag.

My brother-in-law Chris has found his way to the web in the form of a journal. A badly formatted one, but a journal none-the-less. I congradulate him on making the jump from coffee house banter with friends to jornal for the world to see but there’s a few basic rules of english we need to explain to him. One would be our magically friend the paragraph. Hell, just hitting “enter” occasionally would help. Also, I believe this and this could be fairly eductional (especially the last one, it mentions Pocky).

Seriously though, welcome to the web Chris. You’ve been blog-rolled as well. Now… just keep the scary people on your friends list away and we won’t have any trouble… geeesh. Oh, and when you’re ready to leave the scare place that is that Blogger wannabe “Xanga”, just let me know and we’ll get you hooked up with some tasty Moveable Type or some Word Press.

Alright.

So, how many of you spent the afternoon without power? I know I did. It was like camp, only lamer. We had rented the movie room at our apartment for a little Mothers Day cinema experience, complete with cheese dip and brownies. Not five minutes after finishing the first movie the power goes out and the rain and wind pick up. So much so that, back and the apartment, rain started coming in through the windows. Horizontal rain will do that. A few towels later and everything was fine. I brought a few candles and flash lights back over to the movie room where we waited out the storm. After it blew through everyone left and we cleaned up in the dark. The power came back and we watched our second movie with a smaller crowd so it turned out alright in the end. Which reminds me, I’ve got to take the key back over to the office.

Damn, and I hadn’t planned on leaving the apartment today.

FYI

I’ve transfered my domain back to NetSol because it was expiring next month and because NS had a sweet special this month ($19 for 2 years on a transfer). So, the page might disappear while it’s being transfered. Just a heads up.

That seals it

And not really in a good way…

My boss gave me a “gift card” (translation: promo, 1st month free thingy) for Dish Network. They’ve lowered their prices since the last time I took a look at my options for satalite TV so I thought I’d take another look. They have a “top 60” channel package for $24 which has nearly everything I want. Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, ESPN, etc. It doesn’t have G4/TechTV but since they mergered that station has been crap anyway. It also includes the local stations. Now, mentioned (but not discussed) in the brocure is the option for sports packages at $5.99/month extra. $6 isn’t bad if I can add NESN to my package, so I call.

I ask about the basic package, what it includes and doesn’t include as well as installation, how many TVs I get hooked up, that sort of thing. Then I ask about sports. Apparently I hit some sort of cultural barrier when I said the word “NESN” because the lady got all confused. So I rephrased. I said “is it possible for me, being in Houston TX, to get a sports channel from Boston?” The answer was “Yes, you could get the MidWest package and watch MidWest Fox”.

???

“Ok, let me try this another way… I live in Texas, in the south. I’m from Boston, in the north. I’d like to watch baseball, from Boston, the Boston Red Sox. Is that possible?”

“Yes, you could get our Major League Package with your service”

“Ok, and that would be all the games, for all the teams? How much is that?”

“It would only be $169 for the first half of the season”

*cough*

“$169? What about the rest of the season?”

“$249… but it would be better than the single station you mentioned”

“Lets go back to that station for a second… is it possible to even get it?”

“It is, but it would be blacked out”

“Huh?”

“Since you’re not in the local market, you could get the station, but all the games would be subject to blackouts.”

“Ah, I see… well, thanks for your time….” *hangs up quickly*

So, let me get this strait. I could physically get NESN, but I couldn’t watch any games because I’m not in New England? If I was IN NewEngland, I wouldn’t have to try and get NESN extra would I ?!?!?! That’s the whole damn point. I want to watch sports I can’t watch locally. But I can’t, because the MBL tv-rights suck wang.

Arg.

This and That

Well, the weekend (my weekend) has just flown by. In that good way that makes you realize you enjoyed it, but flown none-the-less. As my super quick previous post let on, I enjoyed Hitchhickers Guide very much. I wouldn’t say that it was accurate, but it was fun to watch. Kind of like a a movie from a TV series. You’ve seen so much of the characters, you know the storys, so the movies become just another “episode”. If you look at HHGttG like that, it works. If you go into it thinking you’re going to see, and deserve to see, a complete tale about Arthur and friends you’ll be disappointed. This isn’t a Lord of the Rings epic. This is more of a synapsys of the HH universe. A brief overview of the uninittiated. I will agree with most critics however, that the movie was quite “jumpy” and didn’t really like to stay on track at all. It was really all over the place. Some of that was disappointing. Other parts I was almost glad they happened to jump by it as it was funny reading and I’m glad they included it (whale falling anyone?). I was right about the ending. I didn’t expect any less (more) from Hollywood. I would like to mention the opening song (and credits song for that matter). A rousing ragtime rendition of “So Long and Thanks for all the fish” had me rolling. The only really sad part is that after all is said and done, the BBC will have done a better job of being acurate with the series and with a small percentage of the budget. Makes me want to find the old BBC series on DVD. Oh wait, here it is in my download que… silly me.

That was Friday.

Saturday I worked for about half the day and then came home early. Lauren and I got some Casa Ole’ and then headed over to where we’ll be having a church picnic sometime soon. After that we visited with her grandparents and stayed for dinner before heading home.

Sunday I stopped off at EB and picked up a copy of Capcom vs. SNK… which I quickly returned since its complete crap. What I really wanted was Capcom Fighting Evolution (even though I now read that it sucks) but it’s not coming out until July. DOA Ultimate however, had a major price drop (from $49 to $19) so I picked that up for an even trade when I brought back the first game. That, I feel, was a good purchase. Sherzan and I played it for a few hours Sunday afternoon and managed to unlock about half the stuff. Robin and Laurie came over to join the party and I fired up some hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill.

Sunday night I had a match so the girls were playing Scene-It (the DVD game) in the other room while I was helping my crew to another stalemate. We’ve been locked in combat with another clan for 2 weeks now and no one has been able to get the upper hand. After 5 rounds of overtime, by league rules increasing the spawn times with each round, we’re up to 1-minute spawns. We’ll play again next week and someone should come out on top. With spawn times that long, one well placed missle, scud, artillery barrage, etc, can wipe out half a team for over a minute. That gives the other team plenty of time to get you where they want you and go for your flag. Defense is the key. I did an ok job, I wasn’t really getting the shots I wanted to and the other team would find my hiding spot right off. I was stationed to watch a long stretch of road from an elevated pirch. Infantry couldn’t see me but tanks and APCs could. I was toast after a few well placed shells and I never fully got back into my groove.

We’ll see how we do this week. I feel confident that we’ll be able to take’em.
