New Year’s and beyond

Well, yesterday Chris and I spent all day in Boston. It was quite a bit of fun. We ended up meeting up with Jeff at Satellite records on Mass Ave. We hadn’t seen Jeff since the last time we had been to Avalon. After Chris dropped a large chunk of money on some vinyl for the turntables he may or may not have, we headed over to Harvard Square. We poked around at The Garage before Jeff’s girlfriend Heidi met us for dinner at Uno’s. We had a nice dinner but had to say goodbye because it was time for Chris and I to get to the Bruins game. We got there a few minutes late but it worked out alright. Chris was made to go across the street to a bar and have them hold his backpack in the coat check because the security at the Fleet wouldn’t let him in. That in itself is rather ridiculous because right before us a lady walked through with one of those mini-backpack-purse things. So, I went up to the seats while Chris dealt with his backpack. The seats we had were absolutely fantastic, probably the best seats we’ve ever had at the Fleet. We were in the “clubhouse” section which means that you don’t even have to get up for food, they bring it to you. How nice!

The game was good although the Bruins lost. They played like crap for the 3rd period and didn’t really try and mount a comeback which was kind of sad. It was enjoyable non-the-less. After the game we took the T back over to Wellington and drove home from there. All in all it was quite a good trip into Bean Town.

As for today I’ve got a few things to do (laundry, packing, etc) before celebrating the New Year later this evening. Jeff was trying to get Chris and I interested in a rave in Springfield but I don’t think either of us are up for it. We’d be going to Avalon if it wasn’t $50 friggin bucks to get in. So, the tentative plan is to hang around here, get some pizza and some drinks and have a nice home-brewed New Years Eve.

Thats about it as far as NYE goes. Later.

LAN

Mmmm, games. Day 1 is over, day 2 is halfway done. We’ll probably be leaving tomorrow morning. No sense in trying to drive home tired tonight. It’s been a lot of CS, some Natural Selection and even a little UT2k3. Don’t know what’s going to be up next. Most everybody went in a big group to get some food leaving me a Chip here to play with whoever was left. It’s been a lot of fun. We’re getting our asses half the time but otherwise we’re holding our own. Oh well. Back to the games.

Memory Sticks and the evil mall

My original plan was to go to Manchester today, meet up with Chip and purchase a memory stick. As it turns out, electronic accessory items are a popular thing to be purchased the day after Christmas. Circuit City was sold out and Best Buy had a few but they were really over priced. I’ll just order them online along with a spiffy new case. I was hoping to pick up a 128Mb and a 64Mb card. The smaller for applications and the larger for photos and MP3s. Everything was going fine until we decided to check Best Buy. The problem with WorstBuy is that it’s in the mall. Going anywhere near a mall on the day before or the day after Christmas is like committing retail suicide. The smart people are out looking for deals, the stupid people are out because they have nothing better to do and the rest of the world is out returning that sweater that they got and will never wear. Add 12″ of snow on top of this mayhem and you get my afternoon.

It wasn’t a total loss however, Chip beamed a few things over from his Clie to mine and I’m playing with new Launcher X skins as we speak.

Also, tomorrow is the start of the big LAN tournament in Maine. I’ll be out of town for the next few days enjoying multitudes of gaming goodness. I’ve never been to a big LAN event before so it should be an interesting experience. Geeks of all ages and backgrounds, in the same space, playing video games for hours on end. Whoever came up with that idea deserves a medal. At any rate, Chip and I will be leaving southern NH tomorrow afternoon. Wish us luck as we attempt to destroy (or at least wound) the competition.

G’night.

Feelin’ Loved

Well, when Lauren sends holiday cards, she doesn’t fool around. I got not 1, not 2 but 5 cards in the mail today. I must say, I feel very loved at the moment and I’m sure that was her intention. I love you hun!

I also got a bit of Christmas shopping done today. My brother and I made our way to the extremely over crowded mall to look for gifts for my parents. My Dad had expressly told us not to get him something but to find something nice for our mother… well, they’re both getting something. We found a few nice things and spent way more than we planned to so I hope they like them. I also was looking for a “little something” to finish off my gift buying for Lauren. I have her main present but I wanted a little mini-present or two to go along with it. Unfortunately I didn’t find anything to my liking so I’ll have to go back after Christmas.

Tomorrow I’m going to mix a CD or two and drink some eggnog. I’ll probably wrap presents at some point too. Then on Christmas we’re just staying around here, having a nice day and dinner together and then going across town later at night to have dessert and coffee with my uncle. The “Perry family Christmas” will actually be happening the following Saturday at my aunt Lisa’s house. So, it should be a fun week.

I hope everyone is having a great vacation, getting some well needed down-time and getting to spend a little holiday cheer with loved ones. May good fortunes and well wishes be with all of you.

G’night.

Sunday with the family

Well, today it seems I’ll be spending all day with my family. My brother is home from school and they seem to want to take me out to dinner for my birthday. I asked for Longhorn, Olive Garden or The Outback. My brother had the idea of seeing Lord of The Rings as a family since no one other than me has been able to see it. I don’t really mind seeing it again, it wasn’t too bad. I think we might be going to Outback since it just happens to be next door to the movie theater. We’ll see though.

I also talked to my mom about getting the Clie and she seemed to think it was possible but I would have to use the money my grandparents sent me for Christmas as well. I figured as much and had actually planned on doing that anyway. So, I’m looking up places with the best prices. So far CompUSA is winning with $299 but SonyStyle.com has it for $349 and a free leather case. CompUSA seems more realistic. We’ll see what happens.

Matt out.

Birthday

Well, another birthday come and gone. I’d like to thank Lauren and Nagle for calling me and wishing me a happy birthday, my Aunt Lisa for saying she’d make me cookies and Chris and Josh for taking me out to get some dinner and drinks. Chip was nice enough to invite me to dinner last night which was also tasty although he disappeared today. I wonder what happened to him? It wasn’t such a bad birthday. I woke up to my parents being gone to a hockey tournament and a vague note saying they “might” be home for dinner. So, rather than waiting on them I gave Chris and Chip a call. Chris came over soon after and we decided to see if Josh was in town as well. We couldn’t get a hold of Chip so just the 3 of us headed off to Nashua. We stopped at Newbury Comics for a little while before heading to Margaritas on Main St. After dinner we stopped back at CompUSA so Josh could buy a copy of Tony Hawk 4 for the XBox which we then drove home and tried to play. TH4 is nearly unplayable on the XBox do to the size of the controller. We ended up playing something else instead before Chris and I called it a night and headed home. Believe it or not, that was around 9:30. I’ve been watching TV on the couch since I got home. So, it wasn’t such a bad birthday after all. My parents offered to take me out to dinner tomorrow so that good. I didn’t even get a card from them though, which is kind of disappointing. I’ve gotten over it.

Well, that’s about it. Not much else to say. “Another day older and deeper in debt” as the song goes. G’night.
