Well, here ya go kids… The exclusive first peak at my nifty computer lamp. I’ve explained what it is before (see below) so I’ll get right to the pictures:

Well, classes are over, dinner was tasty and now I’m watching glue dry. Yup. What an exciting life I have. Oh well. At any rate, I’m working on my 3D project at the moment… If it dries in time, I’ll post pictures tonight… If not, it’ll be either tomorrow or after I get it back from my professor. For those of you who don’t know, it’s a lamp, made entirely out of old computer parts (well, except for the light bulb). I’m using an old monitor as my “box” and lined the front with circuit boards with the chips removed. It’s kinda cool. The light shines through the boards and creates a greenish glow about the room. Well, it WILL create a glow, as soon as the glue dries.
Before that though, I had classes. Color went well, I had a critique and nothing negative was said, though no creative criticism was offered either. Oh well. I didn’t really like the assignment anyhow. Can’t wait for the next one… oh shit, it’s already due on Monday. Damn, I’ve got to get shooting.
After that was Digital and I had another crit in there as well. This one went better and the professor really liked my work. Huzah!
After class I went over to Lauren’s and we tried to figure out something to do. I came to the conclusion that I could no longer drive safely having no sun glasses whatsoever. I needed something. But, instead of doing what I’ve always done and gone to walmart for $10 cheap’o’s, I decided it was high time I had a real pair of sun glasses. I’ve never had a pair worth more than $20 in my entire life. So, I went to the mall, the last bastian of over-priced commerce, and went shopping. I ended up at the Sunglass Hut and was browsing when I was shown a pair that were simply awesome. The only downside was the price-tag. $149 is way to much to spend on glasses… but, the sales clerk did point out a pair that was nearly identical, only they were $55. This, I decided, was the utmost limit of my spending and tried them on. To make a long story shorter, I bought them. They rule, they’re Kenneth Cole and they’re brownish with rose-ish lenses. They’re really slick.
After that Lauren and I came back here and made dinner. I felt kinda bad about spending $60 on sunglasses, but I needed them and I think I’ve outgrown the “walmart specials” and I plan on having them for quite sometime. (can’t you see I’m trying to justify a large purchase) At any rate, after that I started in on finishing the 3D project and here I am, watching the glue dry.

Ok, and before I step away from the keyboard for the night, I’d like to comment on a few random things: *insert rants here*
First of all, today we launched missile attacks against targets in Afghanistan. Great, now I’m going to have to worry about nuclear holocausts instead of photo assignments. Fantastic. Thanks guys, I really appreciated it. Ok, now, I don’t object to retaliation, I think that some people have it coming. But by going about it this way, you’re only giving more fuel to their fire. Think about it. If you’re an Afghanistan citizen and you don’t care one way or another… who are you going to side with after your house is blown to bits? Odds are it won’t be us. On the same note… I found it interesting that the Taliban leaders called the missile strikes a “terrorist act”. Now, come on guys. You know as well as we do that they planned it. What did you think would happen? Did you honestly think they were going to send in Jessie Jackson to talk it out? Didn’t think so. All this leads me to believe that this was the idea in the first place. That all of this was to spark their great holy war. Well guys. I hope you’re ready for the shit storm to follow… it’s going to be ugly. People are going to die. There’s no question there. The only question left is if this is going to bring us another 30 years of “cold war” after all the fighting is over. Odds are it will. Buckle up kids…
What else. Oh ya, I’m an idiot when it comes to money. Why can’t I save it like normal people? I don’t spend a lot of money, it just drips slowly from my wallet. $2 here, $4 there, that kind of thing. Setting aside everything that I “want” there are some things that I need. I “need” a newer camera, I “need” a nice tripod, and I “need” a pair of sneakers without holes in them. I can live with out this stuff, but it’s going to make my professional career a lot harder. And so, the job search continues.
On that note, lemme tell you about a little job I might just be qualified for. The SCAD radio station is looking for a “Music Director”. The MD would create the entire stations playlist, fill in for DJs, schedule shows, listen to promo stuff, talk with record companies etc. I think I’d be good at this. I really do. It only pays $200 a month, but the required time working at the station is only 5 hours a week. I don’t quite know how that works out, but I figure the job requires a little more than 5 hours a week. Still, I think that would be a fun job. I’d get to do and be involved with something I love (ie: music) and I get to flex a little muscle and get stuff done. Anyway, I’m working on applying for that (it requires an essay) and should here back in a few weeks. *fingers crossed*
Ok, I think that’s it for the night. Time for some ice cream and some sleep. Later.

Well, I finished my digital stuff after much hatred towards photoshop in general. I really don’t understand the reason for half the assignments. For example, we had to make 9 images total. 3 “torn paper” collages, 3 sureal image collages and 3 “merged” collages. Now, all three of these are complete wastes of time and teach me nothing other than what Photoshop shouldn’t be used for. Why would I ever want to fake “torn paper” and make a collage? Honestly. The sureal ones I can maybe see, they being exercises in masking, cutting and light source/shadow matching etc. And don’t get me started on “merged” images. I could have “merged” images a lot better than what was demonstrated but I kept my mouth shut. I don’t what to make it seem like I know eveything in PS or that any of this is beneith me, it’s not, it’s a very good refresher course, but it’s just that. A refresher course. I already know how to cut and paste. Upcoming assignments look like they’re going to offer more of a challange though, I can’t wait for those.
Ok, so I finished those. I was going to give you guys a peak, but since they’re 350M each, I don’t think that’ll be happening. Sorry, they’re not that great anyway.
I did however, have time to scan in my color work. Now, please take into considerate the nature of my assignment. It was to capture 1) saturated color 2) un-saturated color 3) complimentary color and 4) monochromatic colors. I tried as best I could and I think I covered most of my bases. Don’t worry, the next assignment will kick some ass. I’ll actually get to be artistic for a change. Anyway, here’s a look at these 4. They’re nothing special, but they’re something. As before, click for a larger version.
