Yesterday was family day I

Yesterday was family day I suppose. I drove up north and visited with relatives and then had a tasty dinner. Well, it was kind of tasty. It wasn’t as great as everyone told me it was going to be and I was rather disappointed.

So, after that I drove home expecting to play some computer games with the guys. At some point a decision was made to see a movie instead and since it was raining and I didn’t want to move a computer across town in the rain, so off to the movies we went.

We decided to see Minority Report. I was actually surprised by the movie, I honestly thought it would be complete crap. I expected your average, candy-coated, Steven Spielberg kids movie. It was not. In fact, I really enjoyed the movie up until the last half hour. In my opinion it was the “A.I. Syndrome” all over again and I felt like the movie should have ended sooner than it did. But, on retrospect, the last ending did clailify a few plot points that were dangling in my mind. Of course they were ended in your typical “happy ending” sort of way, but since this is Spielberg we’re talking about, I didn’t expect much else. Let’s just say that at the 2 hour mark I was thinking to myself “wow, this is Spielberg’s first non-crappy-ending movie, go Steve” but at the 2 1/2 hour mark I was thinking “god damn, when is this going to end.” But, for a good effort and fairly decent special effects and always nifty futuristic gadgets, I’ll give Minority report an A-. Good try Steve, just shake off the “I’m making happy endings” crap and you would have had an A+.

Well, I actually don’t feel

Well, I actually don’t feel half bad today. I went to the gym and worked out a bit and then sat in the steam room for about a half hour. It was very relaxing. Then, as if I hadn’t relaxed enough, I decided to go in the hot tub, which was more relaxing. So, now I’m home, eating Papa Gino’s pizza and feeling very very relaxed and happy. Oh, and I also got my buisness cards in the mail today. They’re nifty. Simple in design but they were practically free so I’m not complaining. Anyway, that’s about it. Lauren’s said she would give me a ring at some point so now I’m just hanging out, watching TV until then.

Tomorrow I’m driving up north to my aunt’s house again. This time for a belated father’s day and for two family birthdays. My grandma has offered to take everyone out to dinner (or late lunch – 2pm-ish) at this very nice place near by. I’m planning to leave around 6ish so I can be home in time to play some computer games with the boys tomorrow night. That should be fun. I’ve got my new graphics card and I’m ready to rock.

G’night.

I got the car back

I got the car back today. After a hefty $220 for parts and labor my transmission is working a little better. Still not 100% but I was told it’ll work itself out after the transmission fluid has time to circulate. I’m not sure if I believe that or not but it does seem to be a bit smoother for the moment. That’s unfortunatly the only interesting thing to happen today.

Woot and Woot again! If

Woot and Woot again! If you remember, about two weeks ago my graphics card decided to die on me, so I sent it back to Gainward in hopes of a replacement. Well, a package came in the mail today from Gainward. Not only did I get a replacement, I got one hell of a replacement. I don’t know whether it was intentional or not but I got a Ti 4600 instead of a Ti 4400. What’s the difference you ask? Not much, but it’s enough to warrent a $100+ price increase. I believe it has faster memory on the board and a slightly higher clock speed, but I’d have to check. But, either way, I got a nicer video card than I had before. So, thank you Gainward. You’re customer service department was very nice and very helpful and apparently so was your returns department. Woot!

Well, it looks like the

Well, it looks like the car is in trouble. I brought lunch over to my Dad in Hollis and along the way the car started to “not feel right”. After lunch I checked under the hood and there was transmission fluid all over the place. I’m hoping it’s only a hose or a pressure seal but it’s looks like it might be coming from the front seal, which is a very bad place for it to be coming from. That might mean the difference between a $50 repair job and a whole new transmission. If it’s actually turns out to be the entire transmission we might be shopping for a new car. I’m done with old “free” cars simply because they’re never actually free. We’ve put about $1000 into this car and it’s still a piece of crap. So, it might be time to start looking for something else. That in turn means a larger amount of debt. A huge amount of debt actually. Why not? I’m already 100 grand in the hole from college, what’s another 20 huh? Arg. I hate money. Hopefully I’ll be able to get enough for a deposit if I trade in the Oldsmobile, but I doubt it. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that though.

Anyway, today I started the great job hunt of 2002. Hopefully I’ll find something. I’d love to be an assistant to a commercial photographer this year and there’s actually a few very good ones in the area. I hope they need some help, I don’t want to go back to retail.

That’s about it. Later.
